Golden Gate Bridge

The bridge connects the two peninsulas on the two banks of the San Francisco Bay. It was built by Joseph  Strauss Baermanna. It has a length of 2800 meters and the distance between the pylons is 1280 meters. Pylon  height is 227 meters, and can flow under the bridge even ocean-going vessels, since bridge is located at an  altitude of 66-72 meters above the water surface.

The construction of the bridge began in 1933 and lasted until 1937. Work on design was extremely dangerous.  Strong currents, fog or storms hampered the work of the workers effectively. Particularly dangerous was the  stage of the hanging ropes, each of which was 91 cm in diameter and consisted of 27,000 steel wires.

Golden Gate Bridge and quickly began earning to 1971 turned to construction costs, which totaled $ 75 million.  In the first year he traveled more than 4 million vehicles. Currently, the bridge each day passes 120,000 cars.

In the seventy years of existence, the Golden Gate Bridge has survived many earthquakes, hurricanes, and the  passage of time. In 1989, he survived one of the worst earthquakes of a magnitude 7.1 on the Richter scale.

Bridge, except that communication is an excellent route, also attracts tourists and, unfortunately, suicide.  Since the inception of a bridge over a thousand people took their own lives by jumping the barriers.
