The Sage Gateshead

The building not only impresses with its appearance, but also the acoustic properties of the rooms inside. And not only halls because even the lobby of the building has been designed so that it can be done in the performances.


The total cost of the facility was over 70 millionpounds. The main patron of the building is owned by The Sage Group, which earned enough to givethe building its name. The opening of The SageGateshead was held on 17-19 December 2004. It had a specific character, because they organizedthe gala for invited guests, but many concerts, andadmission was free.

The building exterior is distinguished from an unusual design in stainless steel and glass. Insideare three rooms: the main sites of 1700, less thanthe 400 seats and a room devoted to the test. The remaining part of the building has been designed to ensure located in the middle of the interiors asthe best acoustic properties. In the first roomthere is even the possibility of lowering andraising of the ceiling panels so as to adjust theacoustics of a particular type of music.


The building also houses the Music Education Centre, where they place different types ofcourses, workshops or lessons on theinstruments. The Sage Gateshead is open to the public even if it does not take place at this time,no performances. Visitors can watch the ongoingtrials and workshops.
